Guthrie, OK July 4 – A savage bulldog entered the home of Don Manning at Durham last night and took from the cradle and killed a 2-year old child of Mrs. Mannings which had been left asleep in the house by its mother. The father, working nearby, responded to the child’s crying, but arrived too late. The child was horribly mutilated. – Palestine Daily Herald

With a Ferocious Bulldog–He Fights While He Has Life
Racine, Wis., — Sept. 24, Yesterday afternoon a feocious bulldog, owned by a man named Kull, attacked a nine-year-old boy named Joseph Hurtzen, lacerating his throat so terribly that he will in all probability die. The boy had been playing with the brute when it turned upon him. A little girl witnessed the attack and screamed for help. B.T. Billings, a prominent citizen, and George Thomas, a photographer, heard the cries, and when they arrived at the scene the dog had the boy down with its fangs buried in his throat. They beat the beast off with bricks and stones, and it attacked Billings and grabbed him by the right arm and could not be shaken off. Billings downed the brute and choked it until it loosened its hold…

Fatally Torn by Bulldog
Springfield, Ill., Aug. 15 — Mrs. Martha A. Baxter, with of former Sheriff Baxter and state president of the Woman’s Relief corps. auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, is dying at her home in Pawnee from injuries received in an attack by her bull dog. Mrs. Baxter received her injuries in a heroic attempt to protect a 10-year-old boy. Accompanied by the lad, she entered a neighbor’s yard last Friday to call on a sick friend. The dog made a rush for the boy and Mrs. Baxter drew the child aside and exposed herself to the brute. She was knocked down and bitten in a frightful manner. She would probably have been killed on the spot but for the interference of a villager who was attracted by her screams and choked off the infuriated brute.
